Jenna Skyy Talks Truth About Orlando

You may remember the fabulous Jenna Skyy from our previous feature after she stole the crown at the Miss Gay USofA pageant in 2014. We caught up with this stunning  diva to talk about the Pulse night club tragedy and her eagerness to participate in the star-studded benefit show, Drag Star Divas for Orlando.

(DSD )What do you think could be done to prevent this from happening again in a different LGBT establishment?

(JennaSkyy) Awareness is everything.  Sadly, it’s not just this incident that demands we take measures to ensure our protection…it’s just the climate in the United States right now, the accessibility to weapons, and cultural tensions that seem to heighten faster than they dissipate.  The establishments we frequent should naturally be training their security and staff to monitor with more scrutiny and implement policies that will help prevent a repeat of the horrific event that took place in Orlando.

(DSD) It seems the gun control debate rises after such incidents what’s your stance?

10987359_10100827390245299_2792490852566100664_n(JennaSkyy) Ultimately what could be done…make weapons like these unavailable to the public.  Refine the laws that require a training class like we do for drivers.  Implement a test for safety and use of weapons with a high minimum score.  Limit those that have any criminal record or history, that batter their partners, are on restraining orders, are on no fly lists…they have NO NEED for a gun of any type.  Basically, we need to use our common sense and vote for common sense laws and policies.

(DSD) What does the July 17th Orlando benefit at the Rose Room mean to you?

(JennaSkyy) We are not afraid.  A tragic event has taken place that impacts us all, not just the LGBTQ community.  This could be anyone, anywhere.  But because our community was the victim, it’s important to me to stand tall and raise my voice.  And in doing so, bring together a community to raise some money for those that are grieving. We will continue to raise our voices!
