The wait is finally over the first official trailer of A Star Is Born has arrived and so far, it looks like everything it has been hyped up to be.
Our first look at the third remake, yes third, of a storied Hollywood film has us dissecting every micro second of the trailer, out now. Directed by Bradley Cooper but this will be a debut as the man in charge in addiation to staring as the leading man.
But let’s get real the over hype-ness lays in the its star Lady Gaga on the role of Ester, now Ally, a role with big shoes to fill. In 1937 the role was played by starlet Janet Gaynor, in 1954 it was passed on to Judy Garland in its first remake. This landed Garland an Oscar Nomination which she famously lost to Grace Kelly. Then in 1976 Barbara Streisand took the reign as Ester giving life to folk music and perms. This adaptation in particular took home an Oscar for Best Original Song and swept the year’s Golden Globes winning Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and yes Best Actress for Babs.
From our first impression Cooper’s voice serves major “you taste like whiskey when you kiss me” feels, we can almost smell a Marlboro Red, and Gaga’s turn on the mic mid-way through completely sells on Ally. The music is clearly a centerpiece makeing us think Gaga may be shooting for statues in these categories, even Grammy, yes soundtracks get Grammy’s. Remember, Nominations equals performances!
We get a glimpse on how the star couple meet, and god all mighty Ally serves Drag! The dimly red-lit cabaret bar seems to show her pre-fame nightlife career. She is seen on the floor in a post death-drop pose, surrounded by QUEENS honey, is that you Rhea Litre?
This may also explain RPDR alums Shangela and Willam’s involvement in the film, do they ever not make a movie together? Shangela had already been confirmed to play Ally’s Drag Mother of shorts and pictures of Willam, Rhea Litre, and Gaga have been floating around twitter recently. As to Willam’s role, billed as Emerald on IMBD, may have to wait a little longer to find out, we just hope to see their faces in the next trailer.
Flash forward to the end and we see looks, we don’t know how adapted this take on A Star Is Born will be but we see some falling-from-grace-in-fashion moments and we are here for the drama. A suite wearing Ally screaming in a white marble bathroom, um gag!
PS:Doesn’t anybody else feel that the ending of this trailer was very much Marry the Night video, you know when Gaga wears the big hat and has the nervous breakdown in the bathroom, it’s very that!
Time will tell, this is our very first glimpse of the film. A Star Is Born will première October 5th in time for award season. We want to know what everyone thinks about the trailer, do we have winner on our hands, how will this generation’s adaptation hold up to the originals, and Will Gaga snatch statues this award season?
So far, we say Yass Gaga!
