What happens when you pair the queen of makeup tutorials with the princess of Dutch pop? 15 minutes of absolute magic. Nikkie de Jager, better known to the world as Nikkie Tutorials, recently took to her legendary YouTube channel to paint that face in a Singing My Makeup Routine challenge backed against the unbelievable vocals of Davina Michelle. The result is a dreamlike union of wonder and glee that left us laughing, crying and inspired to create our very own musical mug. 

We caught up with the YouTube superstar to find out first-hand the best part of her collaboration with Davina, and what exactly was the most challenging part of the challenge. 

In the 22-minute video, we are taken on a playful journey from Nikkie’s fresh face to a flawless one. While she makes no denial that she’s nervous about what’s to come, the dazzling diva kills the step-by-step makeup tutorial one beautiful brush stroke at a time, with Davina directing her every move. 

Throughout the makeup anthem, the chemistry between these two Dutch sensations is undeniable. As a spectator, the entire experience is like watching two girlfriends catching up after years of being apart – both lively and lighthearted in their back-and-forth exchange.   

Nikkie has long been celebrated for not only her makeup skill and talent, but perhaps just as important, her fantastical charisma and joyful persona. Let’s just say, if she was ever a contestant in a beauty pageant, besides taking home the crown, she would most definitely win Miss Congeniality. 

Davina is also no stranger to hospitality, and as an admitted fan, we needed to know what Nikkie found to be the most fascinating part about the collab. 

“The best part about collaborating with Davina by far was that I had no idea what she was going to bring to the table,” the makeup extraordinaire told us. “Of course, I know that her voice is going to slay all-day-every-day, but you know, I didn’t know what she was going to do with the four songs and when I got the list of products to grab for the video and I saw green liner, I was like ‘oh, she’s coming for blood.’”

And she did. Davina says that she spent two weeks creating the special lyrics for the makeup challenge, and with each pitch-perfect harmony, she tested Nikkie’s time talent by moving her along in an inevitably uncomfortable task for the painting perfectionist.  

“The most challenging part of doing my makeup with the time constraints was all of it,” Nikkie shares. “Literally, all of it, because I had to listen to what Davina was singing and then act very fast, and then also prepare for the next step. So, literally all of it was super, super difficult.” 

Well, we all know that there is absolutely nothing that Nikkie could do that wouldn’t come out stunning, but what did she think of the end result? 

“Look at me trying to go like ‘oh, but in the end, it pulled through.’ No, it didn’t pull through – it looked like crap!” We will have to politely disagree, doll.
